LOUDPLANES ENDORSES McKINNON AND WINTERER
The November 2012 City Council election is crucial in solving the problems caused by Santa Monica Airport. Whomever is voted into office in 2012, will be there in 2015 when the agreement with the FAA expires. At that point we will have options! Also, there are many things we can do right now to help curb the effects of the airport. But, it takes the will of the City Council to implement them. Clearly, based on record, the current City Council doesn’t have the will to do much!
Because of this, the founders of “LoudPlanes” voted to endorse two candidates. Our vote was unanimous for:
Ted Winterer http://www.tedforcouncil.com and Richard McKinnon http://www.richardmckinnon.com.
Ted and Richard publicly acknowledge the negative impacts of the airport on the surrounding communities and express the will to do something about it. They both support the Airport Commission recommendations.
Further, if the airport closes or the runway length is reduced, we trust they will do the right thing for the surrounding neighborhoods regarding development.
Both Ted and Richard have worked tirelessly to push the City Council to maintain the scale, character and livability of Santa Monica, only to be ignored. Because of this, not only has air traffic from SMO become unbearable for Ocean and Sunset Parks, in particular, so has the vehicular traffic throughout the city.
Some of the organizations endorsing Ted and/or Richard are Santa Monica Citizens for a Livable City; Santa Monicans for Responsible Growth; Santa Monica Democratic Club; The Sierra Club, Santa Monica Police Officers Association; Santa Monicans for Renters Rights and more…
They were voted #1 and #2 by Community Against Santa Monica Airport Traffic in relationship to perceptions of the 15 City Council candidates as far as confidence that, if they were elected, they would bring about real change at SMO.
Campaigns need money and volunteers to be effective! Please send them money or volunteer by going to their websites. (Be aware, developers and related super PACs are donating a lot of money to other candidates.) You may also support them by sending this email on to your friends and neighbors, and/or posting it on your Facebook and Twitter pages. Everything is important and helpful!
LoudPlanes is asking that when you vote for Santa Monica City Council candidates on November 6th (or earlier by absentee/mail ballot), that you consider the long fight ahead that LoudPlanes and many other organizations continue to fight – to make real changes at SMO.
Support and Vote for Ted Winterer http://www.tedforcouncil.com and Richard McKinnon http://www.richardmckinnon.com for City Council. There are four seats up for election, two are incumbents. ***Note*** Some in our group are only voting for Ted and Richard, no more, so their vote will count more.
The LoudPlanes Gang
“LoudPlanes” exists to inform people who are concerned with the issues surrounding the Santa Monica Airport by sending out email blasts to those who have signed up for our email list. We don’t send out many emails, but, we do send out what we consider extremely important to the issue.

It’s 12:15 on a Sunday night. It has been another day full of airplane and helicopter sounds. It never stops! This place is a nasty haven of noise and other pollution. It is truly apocalptic. I am heartened to hear that there are some people who are willing to stand up to the many selfish people and corporations that dominate this city. I was wondering if there was any backbone in the regular folks who live here. I hear so often, we can’t do this, we can’t do that. We live in a car culture, we can’t change that. I don’t believe it. Wearing seat belts took a long time. Getting smoking out of restaurants took a long time. I hope that after 30 years or so, that in 2015, the community can take back that land and stop this encroachment on quality of living. I will support that move however that I can.
