L.A. Democrats Endorse Santa Monica Candidates

The Los Angeles County Democrats endorsed four Santa Monica candidates for the City Council earlier this week.

They named Councilwoman Gleam Davis, former Councilman Tony Vazquez and Planning Commissioners Ted Winterer and Richard McKinnon.

Winterer took the Santa Monica Democratic Club’s sole endorsement at its September meeting

At the moment, according to John Fairweather’s artful chart, Winterer has won eleven endorsements.

He said, “I’m pleased to have been unanimously recommended by the 50 Assembly District interview committee and endorsed by acclamation by the the delegates at last night’s County Democratic Party meeting,”

“The last election, I wasn’t even allowed to vote because I wasn’t a citizen,” said McKinnon, who is from Papua New Guinea. “This election, at the top of the (Democratic) ticket will be the president… Right down at the bottom, in as local a race as can be, will be me.”

The County Democrats also endorsed three School Board incumbents: Ben Allen, Jose Escarce and Maria Leon-Vazquez, and Rent Control Board Ilse Rosenstein and newcomer Christopher Walton

All the nominees will be included in the County Democrats mailers, on its phone banks and in emails.
