HABANASTATION

This Cuban drama, filmed in a western Havana area, addresses inequalities in Cuba through the relationship between two children of different social strata.

Cuban entry for Best Foreign Language Film at the 84th Academy Awards. 2011 Spanish w/ English Subtitles 95 min.

A Review of the Film: Great Director Film

Loved the film, story was good, scenes shot were well-executed, and feel it showed Cuba in a very realistic manner. Story is touching and uplifting and would be a great view on HBO or a typical film Weinstein would buy and make sure that it got distributed and seen all over.

Also the thought comes to mind that the US blockade of this small island is a purely venomous act that serves no purpose to either party — the US or Cuba, and is really shameful of the US. Ian Padron’s directing was wonderful and to make a film like this with the budget that was allowed was amazing. My hat is off to Ian Padron and I hope to see more films to come from this great director.

In September 1998, five Cuban men were arrested in Miami by FBI agents. Gerardo Hernandez, Ramón Labañino, Fernando Gonzalez, Antonio Guerrero and René Gonzalez were accused of the crime of conspiracy to commit espionage. RENÉ González Sehwerert, one of Cuba’s five anti-terrorist heroes, released from prison October 7, 2011 having served in full the brutal and unjust sentence he was given.
