SCHEDULED WILMONT MEETING WILL BE HELD

For the second time, the old, embattled Wilmont Board has canceled the neighborhood organization’s monthly meeting at the last minute. (see prior story below).

It announced two days ago in a press release from chair Valerie Griffin, “Wilmont Board Meeting Cancelled… After receiving threats of disruption, the Board meeting has been cancelled on advice of counsel. Location: Ken Edwards Center, 1527 Fourth Street, Santa Monica, CA 90401…Mon, 07/16/2012 – 7:00pm – 9:00pm.”

The announcement followed the incumbents’ attempts to cancel both the annual meeting and elections — at the last minute. It’s the third time in three months that Wilmont members have been misled by their alleged leaders, who have met in secret, excluding members and the public, according to member Reinhard Kargl who said, “…as far as anyone knows, no one known to the membership has made any ‘threats of disruption’ of any kind.

Kargl continued, “We allege that these are…excuses and stalling tactics of the old Board, who simply fear having to answer to the Wilmont members whom they have so grossly misrepresented.

“Article IV, Section 8 of the Wilmont Bylaws mandate a monthly Board of Directors meeting. Applicable California law would seem to mandate that such meetings must be open to at least all members, and probably all members of the public.

“Acting in good faith, the newly elected members of the Wilmont Board are determined to continue the regularly scheduled monthly meetings at the original time and place. All members of Wilmont and all members of the community are free to attend. Several members of the press have announced their attendance.”

Addressing the community at large, Kargl concluded, “We hope you will take this opportunity to share your views. We want to represent your interests. Please come and tell us what you want us to do!”
