The Committee for Racial Justice will focus on both current issues and history at a community meeting on Sunday, July 8, at the Church in Ocean Park, 235 Hill Street.

A potluck supper is scheduled at 6 p.m. It will be followed by a “call to action” at 6:30 p.m.

An update of an analysis of the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District staff’s response to a racial incident will be presented and discussed.

In addition, excerpts from “Hidden Colors: Colors: the Untold History of People of Aboriginal, Moor and African Descent” will be screened.

Finally, work will begin on plans for candidate forums for people running for the SMMUSD School Board, the Santa Monica College Board of Trustees and seats on the Santa Monica City Council this fall.

The committee urges everyone who’s interested in the future of this community to attend the meeting and participate in planning the forums.
