Not one of the “wide range of options” includes owning a home, as the 56 remaining families (a lie–there are actually 79) already do.

Not since 1066 has the King been able to take citizens’ homes for his own use, without their permission, without using eminent domain (so there is some guarantee of an actual public purpose), and without just compensation. The Staff Report and every other writing on this project has to natter on and use generalities. When one gets to the actual specifics–as you say–the very idea of any project such as the three or four that have been proposed is incredibly obscene.

Speaking of what projects have been proposed, never is there any square footage given for each of these “units” proposed to be built to replace the homes we own. The homeowners of Village Trailer Park rent every square foot of the 3.85 acres at the site. Either our own 750 square foot plots, times 109, or streets, buildings, a swimming pool, etc. as common areas–are all “housing services” under rent control. There is no space available to build on, even if all 109 families that still have rights to the space under rent control agreed. (That in itself–given six years of meetings of the homeowners–is an impossibility.) The space belongs to the voters of Santa Monica, who declared it to be rental housing space, and any agreement to make it anything else void as against public policy.

All our rights are unwaivable.
The voters have power. The homeowners have power. The Planning Commission, Rent Control Board, City Council and Staff writing ridiculous reports have no power at all to change the law. Come to picket every weekday 5:30-6:30 in front of the Park at 2930 Colorado, and come to our strategy meetings and potlucks 3-6 every Sunday at OUR community room at the Park, and you will see and hear demonstrations of the will of all the people, not natterers.
