SM Democratic Club Makes First Cut

Having interviewed candidates for local offices in the November election, the 14-member executive committee of the Santa Monica Democratic Club voted on Sunday to determine which candidates the group would recommend that the full Club membership endorse at its September 15 meeting.

Each of the nominees received at least 60 percent of the committee votes.

The Committee nominated Ted Winterer and Kevin McKeown for four-year terms, and Gleam Davis and Susan Hartley for two-year terms on the City Council. Davis was appointed to fill the seat of the late Herb Katz. Winterer and Hartley ran fifth and sixth after the four incumbents in 2008. McKeown is seeking his fourth term.

The committee nominated incumbents Ralph Mechur, Oscar de la Torre and Barry Snell and
challenger Patrick Cady for seats on the School Board.

Its choices for the Rent Control Board are Chris Braun (two years), Marilyn Korade-Wilson,
William Winslow, and Todd Flora.

The nomlnees and some of the other candidates who were interviewed by the Club committee will
attend the general membership meeting at 6:45 PM, September 15, at the Santa Monica Playhouse.
Following the candidates’ appearances, a vote of the membership will determine which candidates
will be endorsed by the club.
