Hello, Can you help?
I live in Ocean Park in Santa Monica. The airplane noise has dramatically increased in recent months. When I decided to investigate what was up I was relieved to find an involved and concerned neighborhood. Last night I went to an airport commission meeting and I learned…the community cares and showed up in good numbers. The overwhelming obvious problem is the FAA arrogance. The FAA is not requesting or taking input from the community they are impacting. The FAA sets up the criteria to evaluate their plan, execute it and has the ability to ignore any factors that do not serve their interests.
All they seem to care about is fuel pollution on the ground and airport efficiency. Their viewpoint is limited and short sighted. The Santa Monica airport management, pilots, and neighbors are put at risk and their concerns are not being listened to! All of the groups that I heard had significant concerns and seem to fall on deaf ears. It is scary that the FAA can control and impact so many with no consequences. We need our congress and senators to demand that the FAA to work with local communities, specifically ours to find a solution that works for the communities that they serve. What is being ignored is safety to the pilots, planes, the community on the ground. The criteria for evaluating noise levels, pollution, and sanity are narrow and do not tell the whole story. Property values are being negatively affected. And the communities that are suppose to being served are being victimized. Please, Please, Please, find a way to have the FAA open up to broader issues. And be reminded that it is “We The People For The People”. Make the FAA work with us to find a better solution that the one they are considering.
Thank you,
Carol Whitley

nice quad post!
Yes! I already have, what I did was this, I went out and had your entire neighborhood placed on the Super Fund list!
(you can all thank me later when you find and settle in to a new place to live, although a 3 percent fee would be very nice ?)
It was easy to do, all I did was explain how all those particulates from all those clunky gas guzzlers you bemoan of spray all over town like an Agent (dioxin) Orange US Air Force mission that then defoliates the whole area, landing on men, women, children, young and old, and fauna alike, and for any of those offending flights that make it over the sea the creatures of the deep too, as well as the scream of the 50 or so over flights per day that generate as much noise as a Saturn 5 rocket shooting in to space so much so, that it breaks windows and rattles homes to their very sure grip nails!
I also explained how the unitended impact of all this was having on bumper sticker sales on the promenade and how other issues were being relegated to non issues now, there by dragging down sales and with those also city revenues, and that the bumper stickers were fading in the sunlight resulting in non saleable stickers, and as they do, those issues (kill your tv) are non starters any longer? OH THE HUMANITY!
So, there’s your help, the forms are coming to every one in the mail from the FED in response to the cities 17,000 post card mail out campaign, the FED having learned from the Love Canal, would rather buy you out rather than fight a protracted ‘Mouse that Roared’ law suit any way, the bulldozers are already enroute and the cyclone fences are all being cut and fitted for installation in a yard near you too!
Now of course the lawyers are all lined up for the hard headed types who would rather fight than switch (cause thats what they do as a matter of routine) so there will be a little ramp (pun intended here ha-ha) time before all the suits are settled out one way or another but by golly when they are? Just think! Things will be so quite and peacefull around here there will practically nothing for those who work for the city to do!
Think of the cost savings, no street sweepers mean no signs, no parking tickets, no garbage pick up, of course animal control might need a few more staff with the likely return of all those displaced critters who get word that half the city has been declared condemned and has become a dead zone because of all this help?
The north of Montana crowd are going to be fine, dont worry about them, they never come to the south side to begin with it, is not as if they are ever going to miss you right? NOMA will continue to represent them in city hall regardless. Their sidewalks and curbs have and will always be maintained to the highest standards and their parks manicured, the lights on at their libraries.
And then Clover Field will return to being just that, a field again, and it will be as if you never existed?
Gosh, it sure feels good being able to help out around here!
