STATE OF SCHOOLS Assessed

Santa Monica  – Malibu Unified School District’s fourth  annual Community Report, “State of  Our Schools” will be explored Tuesday in Malibu and Wednesday in Santa Monica, November 17 and 18.

Have you ever wondered how Santa Monica-Malibu schools compare statewide and nationally?  Do you really know where the money comes from to pay for local public schools?  How has the State of California’s budget crisis has affected SMMUSD?

These and all manner of other questions will be answered at the fourth edition of  “State of Our Schools: How Are We Doing?” It’s being sponsored by the School District, in partnership with co-sponsors the Santa Monica-Malibu Council of PTAs and the political action committee, Community for Excellent Public Schools (CEPS.

This year’s  report to the community will include: how Santa Monica-Malibu schools rate; an analysis of student achievement; the financial issues facing SMMUSD this year, and the steps that are being taken to offset the loss of State funding due to the present economy.

The program will feature Ms. Pam Brady, Immediate Past President of California State PTA, presenting a State perspective, .  SMMUSD Board of resident Ralph Mechur and Vice-President Barry Snell, School District Superintendent Tim Cuneo on “the State of Our Schools,” and a presentation on some prominent  alumni.

The program will conclude with a panel of students and teachers from Santa Monica High School and Malibu High School sharing their experiences.

Entertainment will be provided by SMMUSD high school musicians.

Refreshments will be served.

Superintendent Cuneo, Board of Education members, Santa Monica-Malibu Council of PTAs, CEPs President Shari Davis and other school leaders will be on hand to answer any questions.

The events will run from 6:30 – 9:00pm. November 17th at the Malibu High School Library.  30215 Morning View Drive, Malibu.  November 18th at the SMASH/John Muir Elementary School Cafetorium, 2526 6th Street, Santa Monica.
