Be There or Beware!

Eileen Fogarty, Santa Monica’s Director of Planning and Community Development, is scheduled to present an “Update  on Progress Made Towards a Revised Land Use and Circulation Element (LUCE) for City Council Feedback and Direction” at tonight’s City Council meeting. It gives us no pleasure to report that there has been nothing that could possibly be described as   “progress” on the LUCE in the five years the City and its platoon of expensive Consultants has devoted... Read More

She was a brilliant and original musician, a folk star in a rock and roll universe. But she quickly became as famous for her controversial views as she... Read More

Amplification: Sort Of

Apparently, at its June 23 meeting, before, during or after Council member Kevin McKeown’s rather   dour request that staff do an analysis of the chemical content of  fireworks, the Council approved the Pier Restoration Corporation’s   plans to stage a fireworks display at the pier on September 9, the hundredth anniversary of  its opening day. Though I was watching with acute interest, as I find the City’s position on fireworks incomprehensible (see “Ban the Bags,... Read More
