Council to Review District’s Performance

One of the most serious questions facing this community is on the City Council meeting agenda Tuesday night: “13-H – Request by Mayor Herb Katz to review and discuss whether the Santa Monica Malibu Unified School District has met the conditions placed by City Council on June 12, 2007, regarding the $529,779 increase to the base payment of the Master Facility Use Agreement.”

In fact, the District has just released the report (see “District Flunks” below). To comply with the Council’s conditions and receive the $530,000, it must accept its findings and ”comply” with and “implement” the changes suggested in the report.
Thanks to the totally addled Council agenda format, this profoundly important question is the last item of the evening.

It is scheduled to follow eight consent calendar items, four closed session items, a proclamation, four ordinances, a resolution, two administrative items, and seven Council member requests.

Residents who want to speak on this question would be well-advised to take an afternoon nap, drink lots of coffee and/or go for a long run to pump up the endorphins.
